VW Mexico
Volkswagen de México in Puebla, with its 15,000 employees, produces approximately 1,500 cars a day in a three-shift operation. The Golf convertible, Jetta, New Beetle, and the Beetle / Sedan models are produced here.
Due to an increase in production of more than 60 % from 1997 through 2001 and the numerous new models and types, new and efficient logistics concept were required. SSI Schäfer was chosen from eight competitors to implement the project as the general contractor.
The decisive factor for this was, in particular, the sophisticated overall concept as well as the proven technology at an outstanding price-performance ratio. The innovative logistics center combines many advantages when it comes to process optimization: cost savings based on reduced space and personnel, eliminated dual functions, and the reduced use of forklifts and trucks. Just in time.
